How much turmeric can you take a day?

Turmeric is considered a "superfood" in India, where the average daily intake is 2–3 grammes. Turmeric has medicinal and nutritional uses in many cultures. There have been no major safety concerns associated with turmeric's use.

Around 3% of turmeric is made up of the active substance called natural curcumin.

Curcumin is effective against cancer, inflammation, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and more.

The curcumin found in nature is an antioxidant powerhouse. It has a higher antioxidant capacity than bioflavonoids (2.5 times), vitamin E (1.7 times), and vitamin C (2.8 times). This means it may aid the immune system in its battle against illness and restore normal biological processes in the body.

Okinawa, an island off the coast of Japan, has the highest concentration of centenarians anywhere in the world. It has been hypothesised by experts that one of the key reasons for Okinawans' exceptional lifespan is their habit of eating a diet rich in turmeric.

Traditionally, Okinawans would add black pepper to their turmeric, which may boost the bioavailability of the compound curcumin by a factor of 20.

An easy way to take turmeric powder is to mix a teaspoon (about 3 grammes) with some warm water and swallow the mixture.

As an alternative, you may add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to a cup of hot water, milk, soy milk, or coffee.
